| It
is not advisable to drive into Mevagissey, it was most definitely
not designed for the motor car! Instead park on one of the large
car parks located on the outskirts of the settlement.
There is a good range of
restaurants and character pubs that serve food or alternatively
you can sit by the harbour and enjoy a Cornish Pasty.
Shops include those selling
gifts, shells, jewellery, fishing tackle and bait. There
are also a number of good quality art shops selling original
paintings and ceramics.
The pier is always popular
with anglers where mackerel are plentiful during the spring
and summer months whilst children enjoy fishing for the crabs
that live in the cracks of the harbour wall.
A number of angling
boat trips are on offer including shark fishing. If you prefer
to stay on dry land the coastal cliff path is accessible from
both sides of Mevagissey, but be warned the assent is very steep. The
coastal path west is by road and it takes you to Port Mellon.
Port Mellon
Port Mellon has a small beach that is
suitable for swimming though at high tide it all but disappears.
During the winter months waves break over the road and consequently
the dwellings all have shutters to protect them against the
lashing sea. |
